High School Notes
Check here frequently for assignments, resources, and other information related to the high school classes.
These are not full "on-campus courses." Each one meets only once per week. They support home schooling for the high school curriculum (manditory this year for grades 9-10, optional for other grades as space allows) by meeting on campus once per week. The purpose is to establish a reasonable pace to cover the work, to "touch base" once per week to make sure work is progressing, to provide activities, experiences, discussion, and quizzes to supplement the traditional home-school curriculum, and to become aware of students who are having difficulty early in the game so they can get extra help as needed.

Science Lab
-
A Biology-oriented lab class offeered by Barbara Brydolf appropriate whether you are taking biology or not. General lab techniques, measurement, data-taking, analysis, lab reports, etc. apply to all sciences. Even if you are taking Earth Science or Physical Science you will find this class useful.

Physics / Physical Science
-
This pair of classes are being offered by David Chandler. It meets at 12:30 on Thursdays for a two-hour block. The first hour is "conceptual physics," which is physics with minimal math, designed for students studying either Physics or Physical Science as well. For Physical Science you should have completed Pre-Algebra or be enrolled in Algebra I. The second hour gets into mathematical physics, at the Algebra II level, but students taking Geometry are welcome to enroll, realizing they will learn some Alg II level math along the way. (Learning new math skills in a context where those skills are immediately applied is actually not a bad way to learn math, but you have to be willing to stretch yourself.) The physics workbook we will be using is A Beginner's Guide to Classical Physics by Patrick H. Canan. (A version of the workbook is available online.) Physics students should come for both classes. Please contact David Chandler if you are interested in either of these classes.

Algebra I (1-year pace)
-
This class, taught by David Chandler, is for two categories of students: those who have had Algebra I before and feel they need to take it again to review it or complete the course, and those taking Algebra I for the first time who feel they are strong enough in math skills to master it in one year. The average pace for this course will be five sections per week.
-
Algebra I (2-year pace)
-
This class, taught by David Chandler, is for students who would like to complete Algebra I over a two-year period. It will cover the same material as the 1-year course, but at a more relaxed pace. It will also include a lot of arithmetic review. The average pace for this course will be 2-3 sections per week.

Geometry
-
This class, taught by David Chandler, is based on the text, Geometry: A Guided Inquiry. All students using this text (whether in the Wednesday classes or not) should be sure to have the CDs installed. It is recommended that all students print out the pdf files for the current chapter as they go through the text. (the pdf files are also readable on the computer).
